In this half day workshop, you’ll learn how you and your teams can do more user research, even if you’ve never done it before or don’t have “research” in your job title. You’ll practice doing user research through partnering up and doing customer interviews and usability tests, don’t worry, you’ll be given discussion guides and testing scripts!
Sarah Doody is a User Experience Designer and Entrepreneur. In 2011 Sarah co-created the curriculum for and taught General Assembly’s first ever 11-week in person UX immersive in NYC. Since then, she’s been educating product teams on the importance of research and storyboarding in product development.
Ever launched a product or features and no one used it?
It’s because too many teams fail to validate an idea before they build it. In addition to wasting time and resources, the team becomes frustrated because after they launch the new product or feature, users don’t use it.
Many teams talk about doing research, but not enough teams actually do research.
Squashing the myths of research
Chances are, you don’t do research for two reasons. First, maybe you can’t get buy in from stakeholders and executives. Second, research may be perceived as being expense and time consuming.
A strategic plan for doing more research
In this workshop, we’ll walk through the entire research process and understand how to get buy-in for conduct smart, fast, and effective user research that doesn’t break the budget.
The workshop will consist of a brief overview of why research matters so that you can have more informed discussions with team mates and colleagues who don’t buy into research. Then, we’ll take a deep dive into the research process as well as practice doing research on each other based on a mock project that you’ll learn about in the workshop.
